Minecraft World SharingYour world, open to friends.
Press Esc, click Invite Friends, choose who may join and host. Your friends play in your singleplayer world from anywhere, without a server and without touching your router.
- Free
- Minecraft 1.8.9 to the latest release
- Windows, macOS and Linux
You decide who gets in
Pick one of four modes before you host, or switch while you play. Friends Only is the default: only your Laby friends get in. Public gives your world an address anyone can add to their server list, Whitelist lets in only the names you add, and LAN keeps the world on your home network.
- Public: an address like YourName.lan.laby.net
- Friends Only is the default
- Public and Friends Only worlds show up in your friends' server list
- Inviting a friend to a whitelist world puts them on the whitelist
- Switch modes while you host
- Online modes need your Minecraft account and Laby Chat, LAN works without
One screen for everything you host
The Invite Friends button in the pause menu opens Manage World. Set game mode, difficulty and cheats for everyone, choose privacy and slots, then press Host World. While you host, tabs show who is online, your whitelist and the friends you can invite.
- Takes the place of Open to LAN in the pause menu
- Kick players, or change their game mode with cheats on
- Whitelist tab: add players by name
- Invite tab: your online Laby friends, one click each
- A port setting for players on your network
- Stop Hosting asks first when players are online
Room for six, or twelve with Laby+
Set how many players fit into your world, you included: from 2 to 6 for free. With Laby+ the slider goes up to 12, enough for the whole friend group.
- 2 to 6 players for free
- Up to 12 with Laby+
- A full world turns new players away
- With a party, slots grow to fit it, up to your limit
- With Laby+ you can also invite friends to a server running on your own PC

No server, no router settings
Open to LAN only reaches your own network: the router stops everyone else. World Sharing goes around it. Your game connects out to a Laby relay, the same way it connects to any server, and your friends connect to the relay. Nothing to forward, nothing to rent, and the world keeps running on your PC.
- Your game connects out, so the router lets it through
- Friends join your address, the relay passes them on
- No server to rent or set up
- The world goes offline when you leave it
- Without the Laby connection it falls back to LAN
Dropped out? You are back in seconds
If your connection to a friend's world drops, the disconnect screen gets a Reconnect button. Turn on Reconnect Automatically and the client tries again by itself after the delay you choose. It works the same on every server.
- Off by default, one switch in the settings
- A Reconnect button on the disconnect screen
- Reconnects by itself after 5 to 120 s (30 by default)
- Works on any server, not just shared worlds
Point at something, your friends see it
Bind the marker key and press it to drop a marker where you are looking. Your Laby friends in the same world see it pop up with a sound, so "over there" finally means something.
- No key by default, set one under Hotkeys
- Visible for 2 to 10 seconds (10 by default)
- Place it up to 100 blocks away
- Friends within 64 blocks of you see it
- One marker each, a new one replaces the old
- Marking mobs and players needs the server's permission
And once everyone is there, say hello with an emote or a spray.
Questions and answers
How do I play Minecraft with friends in my singleplayer world?
Open your world in the Laby Client, press Esc and click Invite Friends. Pick a privacy mode, press Host World, then invite friends from the Invite tab or send them your address. They join from their server list, no server needed.
Do I need port forwarding or a server to play with friends?
No. Your game connects out to a Laby relay and your friends join through it, so you do not change router settings and do not rent a server. The world runs on your PC like always.
How many friends can join my Minecraft world?
Up to 6 players including you, set with the Max Players slider. With Laby+ the limit goes up to 12.
Do my friends need the Laby Client?
For invitations, the Friends tab in the server list and party sharing, yes. A Public world can also be joined with its address like any server, as long as the Minecraft version matches.
Is my world online when I am not playing?
No. The world runs on your PC. When you leave it or press Stop Hosting, it goes offline and everyone in it is disconnected. If a friend's connection drops, Auto Reconnect can bring them back in.
Is world sharing free?
Yes. Hosting, all four privacy modes, invitations, party sharing and markers are free in the Laby Client. Laby+ only raises the player limit from 6 to 12.
