How brewing works

Every recipe starts with Water Bottles in a brewing stand fueled by Blaze Powder. Ingredients are brewed step by step - first Nether Wart, then the effect ingredient, then optional modifiers:

Blaze Powder

Fuels the brewing stand - one piece powers 20 brewing operations.

Nether Wart

Turns a Water Bottle into an Awkward Potion, the base for almost every effect.

Redstone Dust

Extends the potion's duration (long variant).

Glowstone Dust

Amplifies the effect to level II (strong variant), usually halving the duration.

Gunpowder

Converts a potion into a throwable Splash Potion.

Dragon's Breath

Turns a Splash Potion into a Lingering Potion that leaves an effect cloud.

Fermented Spider Eye

Corrupts effects: Swiftness/Leaping become Slowness, Healing/Poison become Harming, Night Vision becomes Invisibility, a Water Bottle becomes Weakness.

Tipped Arrows

Craft 8 Arrows around a Lingering Potion to get Tipped Arrows with its effect.
