Minecraft Performance Mod & Dynamic FPSFull speed in game. Quiet in the background.
Dynamic FPS lowers the frame rate and the volume as soon as you switch to another window, minimize the game or step away. Your PC stays cool, your battery lasts, and optimized rendering helps while you play.
- Free
- Minecraft 1.8.9 to the latest release
- Windows, macOS and Linux
Five window states, each with its own limits
The game does not need 200 frames a second while you watch a video next to it. Dynamic FPS knows five states of the window and gives each one a frame rate limit and a volume of its own. Graphics, VSync, sound categories, held notifications: set them per state, and your own video settings come back the moment you do.
- Hovered: 60 FPS, full volume
- Unfocused: 30 FPS, 25 % volume
- Minimized: draws nothing, muted, holds notifications
- Idle: 30 FPS after 5 minutes without input
- On Battery: 60 FPS when you turn it on
- Frame rate 0 to 60, volume 0 to 100 % per state
- Off by default, a hotkey can switch it on and off
Below 15 the game still reacts 15 times a second, it just draws fewer frames. Music pauses instead of going silent, so a song goes on where it stopped. To keep particles low all the time, turn them down under Particles.
| State | Frame rate | Volume | Holds notifications |
|---|---|---|---|
| HoveredAnother window has the focus, but your mouse is over the game, e.g. on a second screen. | 60 FPS | 100 % | No |
| UnfocusedAnother window has the focus. | 30 FPS | 25 % | No |
| MinimizedThe game is minimized to the task bar or dock. Nothing is drawn and notifications wait for you. | Draws nothing | 0 % | Yes |
| IdleThe game has the focus, but you have not moved or pressed anything for 5 minutes. | 30 FPS | 100 % | No |
| On BatteryThe game has the focus and your laptop runs on its battery. Off until you turn it on. | 60 FPS | 100 % | No |

Stepped away? The game notices
Grab a drink with the game still open and in front, and after 5 minutes without input Dynamic FPS drops it to 30 FPS. It watches your mouse, keys, clicks and scrolling, and also whether your player walks or the camera turns, so a controller counts too. Touch anything and you are back at full speed.
- Idle After: 1 to 30 minutes, 5 by default
- On by default once Dynamic FPS is on
- Mouse, keys, clicks, scrolling, walking and turning count as input
- Only On Battery: idle only when unplugged, if you like
Longer on battery, and a heads-up before it runs out
On a laptop, Dynamic FPS can give the game limits of its own while it runs on battery, even when you play. Turn on Use On Battery Settings and pick a frame rate, volume and graphics level for the road. Battery notifications tell you when the charge runs low and when you plug in or unplug.
- On Battery settings are off until you turn them on
- 60 FPS and full volume when you do
- Low battery notification at 10 %, adjustable from 5 to 50 %
- A notification when you plug in or unplug
- On 1.8.9, 1.12.2 and 1.16.5 the battery is read on Windows only

Storage rooms without the busywork every frame
A big storage room is full of chests, signs and skulls, and the game normally rebuilds the text of every sign and the model of every skull for every single frame. With Faster Chests, Signs & Skulls the Laby Client prepares them once and reuses them, and skips work it does not need for these blocks.
- On by default
- Minecraft 1.21.8 and newer
- Sign text and skull models prepared once instead of every frame
- Turn it off only if these blocks look wrong
What you win in frames depends on your computer and on how many of these blocks are in view.
Fewer steps for every frame
Faster World Rendering draws large areas of the world in fewer steps and needs less temporary memory while the world is being prepared, for smoother frame rates and fewer stutters. Optimized Graphics Calls makes the game wait less for your graphics card, remembers rendering data it uses often and stops switching to things the card is already using.
- Both on by default
- Faster World Rendering on Minecraft 1.21.8 and newer
- One draw per region instead of one per section
- Turn them off only if you see graphical issues
The Flux addon from the addon store adds more optimizations on top.

- use shader: terrain
- use shader: terrainskipped
- bind texture: blocks
- bind texture: blocksskipped
- wait for graphics card
- upload: chunk mesh
- bind texture: blocksskipped
- use shader: entities
- use shader: entitiesskipped
- draw
Each square is a section of the world. Turn the switches off and on.
Plays well with Sodium, Iris and Litematica
Sodium, Iris and Litematica change how the world is drawn. If one of them is installed, the Laby Client's world rendering steps aside instead of fighting it, and tells you so in the settings. Faster Chests, Signs & Skulls keeps whatever still works with Sodium.
- Sodium, Iris or Litematica: Faster World Rendering steps aside
- Sodium: Faster Chests, Signs & Skulls keeps the parts that still apply
- Iris or Litematica: Faster Chests, Signs & Skulls steps aside
- Optimized Graphics Calls stays on
- Optimized Graphics CallsActive
- Faster World RenderingNo effect
Sodium changes how the world is drawn, so this setting has no effect.
- Faster Chests, Signs & SkullsPartly active
Sodium is installed, so the improvements that depend on how the world is drawn are inactive. The rest still apply.

See the difference on your own screen
Numbers from someone else's computer say little about yours. Switch on the FPS widget and the Dynamic FPS widget, which shows the state and the limit right now, then try the switches. Memory, CPU usage and the battery level are widgets too.
- FPS widget: your frames per second
- Dynamic FPS widget: state and limit, e.g. Unfocused (30 FPS)
- Memory, CPU Usage, CPU Temperature and Battery Level widgets

Questions and answers
How do I get more FPS in Minecraft?
In the Laby Client, Optimized Graphics Calls, Faster World Rendering and Faster Chests, Signs & Skulls are on by default. If you need more, lower the render distance and particles in the video settings, and try the Flux addon from the addon store. Watch the FPS widget to see what helps on your computer.
What is Dynamic FPS in Minecraft?
Dynamic FPS lowers the frame rate and the volume while the game is in the background: 60 FPS while your mouse is over the window, 30 FPS and 25 % volume when another window has the focus, and nothing at all while it is minimized. It is off by default; switch it on in the Mods menu of the Laby Client, under Settings.
Does Dynamic FPS save battery on a laptop?
When the game draws fewer frames, your graphics card and processor have less to do, so a laptop usually runs cooler and longer. How much depends on your device. Turn on Use On Battery Settings to give the game its own limits while unplugged, and let it go idle after a few minutes without input.
Will the game lag when I come back to it?
No. The limits only apply while the game is in the background or you are away. Click back into the window or touch a key and it runs at your normal frame rate again, with the volume back within a second. Ignore Focusing Click makes sure that click does not hit or place anything.
Does the Laby Client work with Sodium and Iris?
Yes. With Sodium, Iris or Litematica installed, Faster World Rendering steps aside, because those mods draw the world themselves. With Sodium, Faster Chests, Signs & Skulls keeps the parts that do not depend on how the world is drawn; with Iris or Litematica it steps aside too.
Is there an FPS mod for 1.8.9?
Dynamic FPS comes with the Laby Client on every version from 1.8.9 up to the latest release, including the idle timer and battery notifications. On 1.8.9, 1.12.2 and 1.16.5 the battery is only read on Windows. Faster World Rendering and Faster Chests, Signs & Skulls need Minecraft 1.21.8 or newer.
