Give command

/give @p minecraft:player_head[profile="Notch"]

The skin is resolved by the server when the command runs - name-based heads keep updating with the player's current skin.

Getting heads in survival

  • Player heads are command-only in vanilla - no mob, block or trade drops them. That's exactly what this generator is for.
  • Mob heads: when a charged creeper's explosion kills a creeper, zombie, skeleton or piglin, it drops that mob's head - one head per explosion.
  • Wither skeletons rarely drop their skull (2.5%, more with Looting), and the dragon head sits on the bow of End ships.

Any head, one command

Get any player's head as an in-game item: search a name on laby.net, preview the head in 3D and copy the /give command - with the modern profile component for Java 1.20.5+ or SkullOwner NBT for older versions. Perfect for trophies, decoration, custom models and map making.

Search every player

Version-aware commands

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a player head in survival?
Vanilla survival only drops player heads when a player is killed by a charged creeper's explosion. For every other case you need commands - which is exactly what this generator creates.
Does the head update when the player changes their skin?
Yes - name-based heads are re-resolved by the server, so a given head follows the player's current skin over time.
Can I wear a player head?
Yes - heads go into the helmet slot. On many servers and in map making they double as custom hats and costume pieces.
Do the commands work in Bedrock Edition?
No - Bedrock has no equivalent give syntax for arbitrary player heads. The generated commands target Java Edition.
How do I display heads nicely?
Place them on fences, walls or campfires, combine them with item frames, or use armor stands and note blocks - a head on a note block even changes its sound.
Is there a head for every skin?
Yes - the head item simply renders the head layer (including the hat overlay) of the account's skin, so every player automatically has a matching head.
