Minecraft Inventory ModYour inventory, finally smart.
Search every chest, look inside shulker boxes without opening them, lock the slots you never want to lose and hear it before your elytra breaks. 23 upgrades, one mod.
- Free
- Minecraft 1.8.9 to the latest release
- Windows, macOS and Linux
Find anything in any chest
A search field under every container. Everything that does not match goes dark and the field counts what it found; if you like, the matches light up in a color of your choice. It reads the whole tooltip, so "sharpness" finds your sword and "pearl" finds the shulker box the pearls are in.
- Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac) always opens it
- Searches lore, enchantments and potion effects
- Looks inside shulker boxes and bundles
- Six positions above or below the container
- Can keep your search text
- Always-highlighted items, each in its own color
Look inside shulker boxes without opening them
Hold Shift over a shulker box and its contents appear right in the tooltip, tinted in the box's color. Your ender chest works too: the preview shows what you last saw in it, and when that was.
- Preview key: Left Shift, or set it to Always
- Grid or Compact: same items merged and sorted
- Ender chest remembers its last contents
- Chests and barrels that carry stored items
Lock a slot, never lose it again
Point at a slot and press L. The slot keeps its item: no accidental drop, no shift-click into a chest, no swap. Shift+L protects a whole item type instead, so your best sword is safe wherever it ends up.
- Lock key: L, protect an item type: Shift+L
- Works in chests and other containers
- Protected drops: always blocked, or on a second try
- Locks show on the hotbar too
- A sound and a hint when an action is blocked
- Optional key that locks the held slot in game
Link a slot to your hotbar, swap it with one click
Hold B and drag from an inventory slot to a hotbar slot to link them. From then on a shift-click swaps the two, so the next stack of golden apples is one click away. Linked slots show their hotbar number and a line between them.
- Link key: B, click while holding B to unlink
- Shift-click on either slot swaps
- Can lock linked slots (with Inventory Locks)
- Servers can turn it off
Hear it before your gear breaks
Below a threshold you choose, a hint pops up and a sound plays, and the slot can flash too. It watches your armor and both hands, so the elytra warns you before the fall, not after.
- Threshold from 1 to 50 % (10 % by default), or remaining uses
- Armor, main hand and off-hand
- Sound, hint and, if you like, a flashing slot
- Item widgets can glow or bounce
Want your armor's durability on screen all the time? The armor widgets show it next to the hotbar.
See at a glance what you just picked up
Everything new in your inventory gets a dot, a glow or both, also when a stack only grows. Point at it, close the inventory or wait, and the mark is gone.
- Dot, glow or both
- Also when a stack grows
- Cleared on hover, on close or after a delay
- On the hotbar too
Good items stand out
The slot behind every item takes the color of its rarity: yellow for uncommon, aqua for rare, magenta for epic. Your epic loot never hides between the cobblestone again.
- Soft Fill, Border, or Fill and Border
- Opacity from 10 to 100 %
- On the hotbar too
- Optional for common items
Containers that open with style
Chests, furnaces and every other container fade in, rise or grow when they open, as fast or slow as you like. Closing can animate too.
- Fade, Fade and Rise or Scale
- 50 to 400 ms (150 by default)
- Optional when closing
A size of its own for your inventory
Play with a small interface and a large inventory, or the other way around. Inventories and containers get a GUI scale of their own, apart from the hotbar and the rest of the interface.
- Size 1 to 6, or 0 for the largest that fits
- The creative inventory too, if you like
- The hotbar keeps the interface scale

Questions and answers
Is there a Minecraft mod that lets you search your inventory?
Yes. The Laby Client has Inventory Search built in: turn on the Inventory mod and press Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on a Mac) in any chest or container. It searches item names, enchantments, lore and even the contents of shulker boxes.
How do I see what is inside a shulker box without opening it?
Turn on Container Preview in the Inventory mod and hold Left Shift while you point at the shulker box. The contents appear in the tooltip. You can also set it to always show, and your ender chest shows what you last saw inside it.
How do I lock an inventory slot in Minecraft?
With Inventory Locks on, point at the slot and press L. The item can no longer be dropped, moved or shift-clicked by accident. Shift+L protects every item of that type instead, wherever it is.
Is the Inventory mod allowed on servers?
The Inventory mod only changes what you see and protects you from your own misclicks; it gives no advantage over other players. Servers that prefer to can turn off Inventory Search and Hotbar Links for their players.
Which Minecraft versions does it work on?
The Inventory mod comes with the Laby Client on every supported version, from 1.8.9 to the latest release. A few parts depend on the game itself, such as the Centered Recipe Book (1.12 and newer).
Do I have to install anything else?
No. The Inventory mod is part of the Laby Client. Download the client for free, open the Mods menu, switch on Inventory and pick the parts you want.
