How to Get the Twisted and Hero Cape in Minecraft

Two new capes are coming to Minecraft, and neither of them drops in the game you are probably playing right now. Both are tied to Minecraft Dungeons II, and both end up on your account in Java Edition and Bedrock Edition once you have done the right things in the right order.

One of them can no longer be unlocked: the Twisted Cape was a pre-order bonus, and Minecraft Dungeons II is out now.

The Twisted Cape

Deep blue, shot through with the sculk-lit glow of the Twisted Warden. This was the pre-order cape, and it can no longer be obtained: Minecraft Dungeons II launched on 29 September 2026, and the pre-order window closed with it. Pre-order bonuses do not come back, so if you did not pre-order in time, this one is gone for good.

If you pre-ordered

1. Open Minecraft Dungeons II and check that the cape shows up there.
2. Log into Minecraft: Java Edition or Bedrock Edition with the same Microsoft account.

That is it. No server to join, no code to redeem. The account link does the work, which is also why step 2 matters: the cape will not appear in Minecraft until you have actually signed in after it unlocked in Dungeons II.

The pre-order also came with two Hero skins and the Twisted Chicken pet. The chicken is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds.

The Hero Cape

The red counterpart, and the more forgiving of the two. No pre-order needed, but it asks for something the Twisted Cape does not: that you have actually played the first game.

How to get it

1. Play Minecraft Dungeons with your Microsoft account.
2. Log into Minecraft Dungeons II with that same account before 31 December 2026.
3. Log into Minecraft: Java Edition or Bedrock Edition to claim it there.

The deadline here is the end of the year, so there is a lot more room. But note the order: Dungeons first, then Dungeons II. Playing only the sequel does not unlock it.

You do not have to buy either game, by the way: playing Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Dungeons II through Game Pass is enough.

Java or Bedrock?

Both. That is the short answer, and it is worth saying out loud because cross-edition cosmetics have not always worked this way. Capes live on your Microsoft account now, so unlocking one anywhere unlocks it everywhere that account plays.

If you wear an elytra, the cape texture wraps onto it, exactly as in the pictures above. Wings that match your cape, at no extra cost.

The deadlines, side by side

The Twisted Cape is gone: pre-order windows do not reopen. The Hero Cape is still open until the end of the year, and with Game Pass it does not even take a game purchase.
