Northern lights over your world
Curtains of light fold and drift across the night sky, green along the lower edge and violet at the tips. Now and then they flare up. Let them show on cold nights, every night, always, or only when the northern lights are really out above your place.
- Appears in cold biomes at night, every night, always, or when they are really visible
- Colors: Polar Green, Polar Pink, Solar Storm, Arctic Blue or two of your own
- 1 to 8 curtains, 60 to 260 blocks above you
- Brightness, activity and movement to taste
Only you see them. More for the look of your game is on the visual mods page.
Day and night follow your clock
When the sun sets outside, it sets in Minecraft too. Real Time runs the time of day, the light and the moon phase by the real time at your place. The days are as long as outside, so summer evenings stay bright and winter nights are long.
- Sunrise, noon, sunset and midnight as at your place
- Day length by the season
- The moon phase of tonight
- Only you see it, the server keeps its time
When it rains outside, it rains in Minecraft
Real Weather brings the weather at your place into your world: rain, snow, thunderstorms and grey skies. Storms light up the sky and rumble in the distance. You decide whether it rains everywhere, like outside, or only where the biome allows it.
- Rain, snow, thunderstorms and cloudy skies
- Updated every 15 minutes
- Everywhere, or only where the biome allows it
- Lightning and thunder only you see and hear
You search for your town once. Only the town and its coordinates, rounded to about a kilometer, are saved. The weather data comes from Apple Weather.
The real stars, with their names
Real Sky replaces Minecraft's sun, moon and stars with the real ones above your place: the moon in its phase, every star where it stands tonight. Draw the lines of the constellations, and when you look at one for a moment, its name appears.
- Sun, moon and stars as above your place
- Lines for all 88 constellations
- Names after 1 to 15 seconds of looking
- Stars from 20 to 200 % brightness and 50 to 250 % size
Always noon, or always night
Want to build in daylight, or look at the stars whenever you like? The Time Changer sets the time of day only for you, the server keeps its own. It goes before Real Time.
- Any time of day, in steps of 100 ticks
- Only you see it
- Goes before Real Time
- With Real Sky you still see the real moon
The forecast on your HUD
Weather shows the temperature and the weather at your place right now, Weather Forecast the coming hours or days. Both are HUD widgets: put them anywhere on the screen and style them like the others.
- °C or °F, with feels like, wind, humidity and chance of rain
- Forecast for 2 to 8 hours or days
- Side by side or below each other
- 24 or 12 hour clock
Questions and answers
Can Minecraft follow the real time and the real weather?
Yes, with Atmosphere in the Laby Client. Turn on Real Time and Real Weather, search for your town, and day, night, rain and snow follow the world outside your window.
How do I get northern lights in Minecraft?
Turn on Aurora Borealis under Atmosphere. By default the northern lights show in cold biomes at night. They can also show every night, always, or only when they are really visible at your place.
Do other players see my time and weather?
No. Atmosphere only changes what you see. The server keeps its own time and weather, and a server can turn the mod off. You choose whether it works in singleplayer, in multiplayer or in both.
Can I try everything without waiting for night or rain?
Yes. Set the mode to Manual and pick any hour and any weather, from clear to blizzard. Switch back to Real to follow your place again.
Where does the weather come from, and what is saved?
From Apple Weather, updated every 15 minutes. You find your town by name, and only the town and its coordinates, rounded to about a kilometer, are saved in your settings.
Which Minecraft versions are supported?
The Laby Client runs on Minecraft 1.8.9 up to the latest release, on Windows, macOS and Linux. Atmosphere works on all of them.
