Speech Bubbles

Chat that pops up above heads

When a player near you writes in the chat, the message pops up in a bubble above their head, so you see at once who said it. Long messages wrap onto several lines. With the Voice Chat addon, the bubble shows a moving wave while someone talks.

  • Off by default, one switch in the mods menu
  • Stays 8 seconds, from 3 to 20
  • Game font or your theme's font
  • Voice waveform with the Voice Chat addon

Interaction Menu

Middle-click a player for everything else

Look at a player close to you and hold the middle mouse button: their head appears with everything you can do. Open their laby.net profile, copy the name, see their name history or add them as a Laby Chat friend, then let go on the entry. Your AutoTexts can sit here too, and servers and addons add their own, like the Voice Chat volume for each player.

  • Middle mouse button by default, any key works
  • Let go on an entry to use it
  • AutoText with the player's name
  • Entries from servers and addons

Player List

A tab list with faces and exact ping

Hold Tab and every player has their head, their ping and their flag. Laby players carry their badge, the ping can show in milliseconds, and the top line counts how many players use the Laby Client. Highlight yourself, your friends and your party, see who joins and leaves, and let servers put their banner on top.

  • Heads, ping and country flags
  • Display Exact Ping, colored, with a trend
  • Share of Laby players on the server
  • Highlights for you, friends, party, joins and leaves
  • Sort by name, ping, Laby first or friends first
  • Up to 800 players in columns

Turn on Show own name in the Name Tag settings of the Laby Client and switch to third person with F5. Your name tag shows like everyone else's.

What does the wolf next to a player's name mean?

The player uses the Laby Client. A blue wolf is a Laby player, a gold one has Laby+.

How do I turn on speech bubbles?

Open the mods menu with Right Shift, search for Speech Bubbles and switch it on. Chat messages of players near you then show above their heads.

How do I open the interaction menu?

Look at a player close to you and hold the middle mouse button, then let go on the entry you want. You can put the menu on another key in the hotkey settings.

Does the tab list work on every server?

Yes. The Laby Client's player list replaces the vanilla one everywhere. Servers can add their banner and badges through the Laby server API.

Which Minecraft versions are supported?

The Laby Client runs on Minecraft 1.8.9 up to the latest release, on Windows, macOS and Linux. Name tags, speech bubbles and the player list work on all of them.
