Minecraft toolsSmall tools for big builds.

Point at a spot and mark it for your friends, stretch a measuring tape between blocks, see where the build height ends and stop placing torches when you want to shoot. Built into the Laby Client, free.

  • Free
  • Minecraft 1.8.9 to the latest release
  • Windows, macOS and Linux

Measurement

A measuring tape for your builds

Press your measuring key, click a block to start and another to finish: a tape stretches between them with the distance on it, and the action bar shows it too. Start the next tape wherever you like, and a right click takes the last point back.

  • Left click adds a point, right click removes one
  • Snaps to half blocks
  • Up to 100 blocks away
  • Stays until you clear it, with a key of its own

Marker

Point at it, your friends see it

Look at a spot and press your marker key: a line with your head on top appears there for your Laby Chat friends in the same world, up to 100 blocks away. Mark a player or a mob and the marker follows them. The same marker points the way in World Sharing.

  • Up to 100 blocks away
  • Stays 2 to 10 seconds, with a sound
  • Follows the player or mob you mark
  • Pick a Marker Key first, there is none by default

Build Height Limit

See the last layer before you hit it

Build close to the top of the world and the client shades the highest layer you can build on, with a few fainter layers below it. No more guessing where your tower has to end.

  • Shade, Outline or both
  • Fading layers below the limit
  • A HUD widget counts the blocks you have left
  • Off by default
Blocks placed on the top layer at Y 319: their top is shaded, the layers below get a fading red outline
Improved Torch Placement

A torch in your off hand, without the accidents

With a torch in your off hand, a right click on a block places it whenever the item in your main hand has nothing to do: food when you are full, an empty bottle, a bow without arrows. Turn this on and the torch stays in your hand while you hold food, a bow or a glass bottle.

  • Food, bows and glass bottles
  • Any item in the off hand
  • Minecraft 1.9 and newer
  • Off by default

Server Helpers

Small things that save a reconnect

Smart Disconnect asks a second time before you leave a server or your world. Auto Reconnect brings you back after a kick with a countdown, server resource packs load without asking, and the pause menu can show the server you are on with its MOTD and ping.

  • Smart Disconnect: the button turns red and asks again
  • Auto Reconnect after 5 to 120 seconds
  • Server resource packs accepted for you
  • Server info above or below the pause menu buttons
Save and Quit pressed once: the button turns red and asks to be pressed again
External Devices

Your phone and Stream Deck as controllers

Turn on External Devices and the Laby app shows your HUD on your phone as a second screen, while a Stream Deck runs emotes, hotkeys, screenshots and settings on its keys. Devices find the game on your network and ask once before they connect.

  • Pair once, later they connect on their own
  • Laby app: your HUD widgets on your phone
  • Stream Deck: hotkeys, emotes, screenshots and settings
  • Off by default

Questions and answers

How do I mark a spot for my friends in Minecraft?

Pick a Marker Key in the Laby Client's hotkeys, look at the spot and press it. Your Laby Chat friends in the same world see the marker with your head on top.

How do I measure a distance in Minecraft?

Give Measurement a key, press it and click two blocks. The tape between them shows the distance in blocks.

What is the build height limit in Minecraft?

In the overworld of current versions you can build up to Y 319. Build Height Limit shades that layer when you come close, so you see where your build has to end.

Why do I place torches when I want to eat or shoot?

Minecraft places the item in your off hand when you right click a block. Improved Torch Placement stops that while you hold food, a bow or a glass bottle.

Can I use the marker on servers?

Yes. It shows for your Laby Chat friends in the same world, and markers that follow players or mobs work where the server allows them.

Which Minecraft versions are supported?

The Laby Client runs on Minecraft 1.8.9 up to the latest release, on Windows, macOS and Linux. Improved Torch Placement needs 1.9 or newer, because older versions have no off hand.
