Minecraft AFK CameraStep away, your game keeps filming.

  • Windows, macOS and Linux
A dolly zoom, a fly-by past the cherry trees and a close-up, while nobody touches the game
Takeover

Stand still, and the camera takes over

After 30 seconds without a key, a click, a scroll or a mouse movement, the view switches to the third person, the HUD and the chat hide and black bars slide in at the top and bottom. The first shot glides out of the spot behind you into its move, so the film starts right where you left off.

  • Delay from 10 to 300 seconds
  • Hides the HUD and the chat like F1, if you want
  • The same cinema bars as the zoom
  • Only in a world, never on a menu or in your inventory
Playing with the HUD, then hands off: after the delay the camera glides out into a dolly zoom
Camera Moves

Thirteen slow moves, cut like a film

The camera circles you, pulls back to reveal the land around you, rises like a crane, looks up from the ground or pushes in from far away. Every shot fades to black, and the next one fades in from a clearly different angle. The same move never comes twice in a row.

  • 13 moves, shuffled in every round
  • Shot Duration from 5 to 60 seconds, 12 by default
  • Every cut turns the camera by at least 60°
  • Slow and steady: a circle turns 3° per second
A crane shot, a low angle and a slow circle, each fading over to the next
Clear View

Never stuck behind a tree

Before every cut the camera checks its whole move: does it see you all the way, or would a tree or a hill get in between? If anything blocks the view, it tries other directions and other moves. Leaves and blocks count, grass and flowers do not.

  • Checks the whole move before it starts
  • Up to five directions per move
  • Leaves and blocks block the view, grass and flowers do not
  • Walled in? It waits a few seconds and tries again
Long-lens shots between the cherry trees, each from a spot with a free view
Hand Back

Touch anything, you are back in the game

Any key, click, scroll or mouse movement hands back your view in the same frame, and so does taking damage. Your HUD and your camera are exactly as you left them. Pressed F1 or F5 while it was filming? That stays.

  • Back in the same frame
  • Damage counts as input
  • Restores only what it changed
  • Nothing is written to your options file

Want the game to look like this while you play? Set your field of view and turn off view bobbing with the camera mods.

One key press: the view is back at once and the cinema bars slide out

Questions and answers

Is there an AFK camera for Minecraft?

Yes, the AFK Camera in the Laby Client. Turn it on once, and every time you leave the game alone for a while it films your character from changing angles until you press a key.

How do I turn on the AFK Camera?

Open the mods menu with Right Shift, search for AFK Camera and switch it on. It is off by default. Delay, shot duration, cinema bars and hiding the HUD are set right there.

Do other players see the camera moves?

No. Only your own view changes. Your character stays where it is, other players see you standing still, and a server can turn the AFK Camera off.

Can I use it for my stream or my videos?

Yes. Leave the game running and the AFK Camera fills your break with calm shots of your character, or films b-roll for a video while you get a drink.

Does the AFK Camera cost FPS?

Turned off, it does nothing at all. While it waits, it checks for input once per tick. While it films, the game renders as usual, and the view is only checked at each cut.

Which Minecraft versions are supported?

The Laby Client runs on Minecraft 1.8.9 up to the latest release, on Windows, macOS and Linux. The AFK Camera works on all of them.
